I bought these to keep the cats from scratching the new couch. The first application was a learning experience and resulted in many of the caps falling off quickly. The second application has proven to be more fruitful and has shown who the “houdini” is at removing them (thanks to buying multiple colors). Definitely clip your cats claws prior to putting these on. Note that your cat cannot properly retract their claws with these on so the correct size is important in order to avoid discomfort. Unlike other reviewers, I had no issues with the provided adhesive; I did compare a branded tube of “super glue” and noticed no difference in the length of period they stayed on. With that said, the average period of time they seem to stay on is about two weeks for “houdini” and four weeks for the others. Better than the alternative in my opinion. I’ll definitely keep using them.

I adopted 2 cats from a local rescue. The girl cat (7)was already declawed (poor baby), and the boy cat (1) was your typical exploratory scratcher. If something was interesting, he would claw it as a means to explore, and sometimes to play.The way our house was arranged with mostly wooden furniture and items the cats were allowed to play on didn’t cause us too many issues until I wanted to get a couch. I knew the boy cat would try to claw on it, and we had arraged some furniture to find that he clawed up some wallpaper as well. I knew I didn’t want to declaw him, and I used claw caps with a previous cat, so I found this brand of soft caps in red (my son’s favorite color). They have been perfect for us! However, I went into this knowing a few things already.Some cats have brittle nails. No matter how sharp your nail trimmer from the pet store is, the nail will still split. This can be very uncomfortable for your pet. This is the case with my boy cat. The only way around this is a nail clipper intended for humans. The same one you use. Instead of using it horizontally as you would for your nails, turn it 90 degrees and trim your cats nails verically. Since your goal is to only trim the sharpest point, it’s very easy. If you’re still having issues, the nail clipper likely isn’t sharp enough.Remember, you only need to do the front paws.Before you can get to nail trimming, let’s talk positioning. First of all, have some treats ready. For your first application, make it some good ones, such as actual chicken or turkey (prepared in a way that is safe for kitty). Some cats may submit and be comfortable laying on their backs, but the majority will not. A kitty burrito wouldn’t work well for applying claw caps, especially if you have a struggler. I use the method of getting down on my knees and trapping my cat there by leaning over him to access his front paws. Make sure everything you need is within reach: claw caps, glue (I put both of mine in a small glass bowl), treats, and trimmer. Give a few treats, some pets, and encouraging words before you begin.Then you can trim the nails, with some treats, pets, and encouraging words sprinkled in there.Once you’ve trimmed all the nails, reevaluate your cat. Are they ready to proceed now? Do they need a break? Do you need a break?There’s no sense in making this stressful for either of you. Make it a positive experience.If your cat is too flighty for this next part, it’ll be an issue. You need both hands and you’ll be working with super glue. If you get it on you, or your cat’s fur (God forbid both at the same time), you will both be pretty unhappy.If your cat is running away everytime you reach for the caps and glue, make sure you get someone to help you.Practice with finding the best way for you to get the claw out and the fur away while also holding the claw cap (without glue right now). It sounds harder than it is. I promise.I found that the glue that came with the caps dried up after 1 use. So, I bought the Gorilla Super Gule with the micro applicator. It’s been perfect.Squeeze only a tiny amount of glue into one side of the cap’s opening. This way, the glue will go down into the cap and you can check how much is in it by gently squeezing it. Remember, the entire nail should fit inside the cap, so there isn’t much room for glue. You don’t need much. If you put too much, you could end up gluing some fur and or skin to the claw or claw cap. It is okay if that happens, especially if its a small amount, but it isn’t very comfortable. If that does happen and your cat is behaving strangely, do not hesitate to take them to the vet. They may have a reaction to the glue making contact with their skin. On just the nail, its fine.It will take a bit of finessing to learn how to do it by yourself, but it is possible. The initial application is the hardest part. After that, replacing a cap here or there takes only a minute, including the time to give your kitty a treat!

Purchased for wife’s cat—she says: Great soft caps for kitties. My kitty had a problem and would scratch and scratch the same spot so it would not heal. Got these to keep her from continuing to tear up her skin. They worked great and the area healed up. They stayed on for over 2 months. With the color choices you can jazz up your kitty’s look too. Easy to follow directions. I recommend them.

I really cannot get enough of these!!! I have two cats- 4 and 2. The older one doesn’t care to scratch but my baby loves to. When I caught her eyeing my newly reupholstered dining room chairs, I searched thoroughly for a solution that wouldn’t hurt her or the chairs. I held her while my husband clipped her nails (I’m a big wuss), filled the caps with the glue, and stuck them on. We couldn’t believe what an easy and quick job it was. At first she yelped a little because it was the first time we’d ever handled her claws like that, but it was more so out of surprise than any actual pain. There was no adjustment period at all- she started running around immediately and doesn’t try to bite them off. She still continues to scratch everything but to my delight nothing has been punctured. These caps are incredible! We put the first set on about a month ago and she hasn’t outgrown any of them yet / all caps are still perfectly secured. I will be buying these forever!

I am a big fan of these nails. My cat and I have been using them since he was about 6 months old. I have a very calm cat so he has no problem at all with the application of the nails, unless I get some of the glue on his fur, but that is very understandable. My only complaint is that on occasion they don’t fall off which causes the nail to grow through the top, or the tip to become worn off, and try as I may I have not found a way to get them off myself. I will continue to buy these and recommend them to anyone as a very safe and humane alternative to declawing.
