I have two medium size puppies, and decided it was time for them to have their own clippers. I had no idea what to buy but I chose these after I read the review. So far I have been happy with them. They work great and cut easily through a dogs thick nails.

I have a Great Pyrenees. These large breed dogs have very thick claws and thick double dew claws. These have an opening large enough to clip the claws and the dew claws safely. This is the only style nail clipper that should be used on dew claws. These provide safety. On most dogs, dew claws can be removed surgically. NOT on a Pyr! Not ever! If you ever have a vet tell you the dew claws should be removed- take your beautiful dog and run out the door because that Vet is an idiot. I have schooled vets over the years on this. Pyrenees have double dew claws that are attached to the tendon of the leg and is a breed standard feature. Removing the dew claw could cripple your dog. When clipping the dew claws you want something that will release freely should the dog jerk the leg, these clippers don’t run risk of pulling the claw/tendon. those guillotine type nail clippers can get stuck on the nail and pull on the tendon. While I’m on the Pyr care topic…Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you should shave your Pyr if you live in a hot climate. Nonsense! That long beautiful white fur is as much an air conditioner as it is a heater. The energy from the heat is expended by the time it reaches the end of the fur close to the skin. As long as the dogs are well groomed they will be just fine.
